Date: 10th May 2010
Infections can be acquired anywhere although those acquired in care homes, healthcare as well as other closed or semi-closed communities attract particular media attention and concerns. Therefore the need to prevent and control infections is much broader than just hospitals. Preventing the spread of disease, particularly norovirus, and especially when dealing with higher risk members of the population, is an important responsibility for many managers.
After attending this unique course, delegates will be able to:
- Explain the financial consequences of infection outbreaks
- List and characterise important groups of relevant pathogens
- Distinguish between infection and carriage and the importance of both in the infection transmission cycle
- Describe standard infection prevention/control procedures
- Outline the documentation needed as part of an infection prevention system
- Construct a hand hygiene policy and describe approaches to improve hand hygiene implementation
- Construct a norovirus prevention and control policy
Delegates successfully completing a multiple-choice examination will be awarded a Level 2 Qualification.
