Level 3 Award in Food Safety Supervision for Retail

Candidates achieving the HABC Level 3 Award in Food Safety Supervision for Retail will be equipped with the necessary information to effectively manage and supervise food safety in any retail environment where food service and food sales are involved.

The food retailing environment is diverse and adequate controls must be in place for both high risk and low risk foods. This Award will equip those responsible for managing controls with the necessary competence to ensure that safe food is sold.

One important aspect of food safety in a retail environment is to ensure that any controls the supplier has applied are continued to the point of sale. Achievement of this Award will ensure that candidates have the confidence to manage the continuity of the food safety chain in any retail situation. The Award also focuses on how HACCP is applied to food safety in a retail environment and the role that those responsible for food safety should take to ensure that food safety management systems are implemented and verified.

This HABC qualification has been designed to address the differences that exist between food safety in a catering environment and food safety in retail. Managers and Supervisors completing the Award will be equipped to ensure that their business is compliant with the requirement to train any employee involved in food sales to levels commensurate with their work activities.

The qualification will be recognised by Enforcement Officers and Auditors from nationally-recognised or independent auditing schemes.
