Manual Handling

Manual handling injuries are the main cause of lost working days in the UK. These injuries occur due to sprains and strains resulting from the incorrect lifting and movement of objects. In accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and subsequent Regulations, it is the responsibility of all employers to provide employees with sufficient information and training on manual handling. Employees can gain a manual handling qualification through HABC to ensure you are compliant with the regulations and to minimise the costs you incur from work-related lifting injuries.

By training an employee to achieve a manual handling qualification you have an effective way of ensuring that you have taken the necessary due diligence to ensure your staff are adequately trained.

Levels of Award

HABC provide two Level 2 manual handling qualifications. These are:

Level 2 Award in Safe Moving and Handling – This award makes candidates aware of their responsibilities and gives them a good understanding of the principles of safe moving and lifting of loads.

Level 2 Award in Moving People Safely - Candidates gaining this award will understand that any moving and handling must be carried out correctly and recognise the importance in this for ensuring a safer working environment for all. The qualification is underpinned by the safe principles of moving and handling but recognises the special skills required when assisting and moving people. This award is suitable for new starters in organisations where the movement and assistance of people is a key role, as well as being suitable for refresher training.
