Under the Private Security Industry Authority Act 2001, all individuals wishing to work in the private security industry must undertake a recognised qualification before applying for a licence.
As part of its licensing function, the Security Industry Authority (SIA) has developed a competency (skills) requirement. The aim is to create a more competent and professional workforce, which will in turn improve the public image of the private security industry and help to make the sector more attractive to potential employees.
Any individual wishing to apply for a SIA licence must prove they are properly qualified. Therefore, individuals working in the private security industry must undergo a structured training programme, resulting in a recognised qualification. Applicants who do not hold an SIA-endorsed qualification may have their licence application refused.
HABC’s new Security qualifications are fully endorsed by the SIA and Regulatory Authorities. They are intended for anyone working in the CCTV Operations, Door Supervision or Security Guarding sectors of the private security industry.
